Why It Takes This Long:
Creating your custom rug involves multiple detailed steps to ensure you receive a high-quality product. Here’s an overview of the process:
1. Designing the Rug: We begin by drawing the initial design for your rug. If it’s a custom piece, we’ll work with you to finalize the design before moving forward.
2. Tracing the Design: Once the design is confirmed, it is carefully traced onto the tufting cloth. This is a delicate step to ensure accuracy.
3. Tufting: The actual tufting process begins, where the design starts to take shape. This step can take a bit of time, depending on the complexity of the design.
4. Pre-Carve: While tufting, we go back and forth between sections to carve details on the rug while it's still on the frame to create texture, precision and to make the final carving easier and faster.
5. Maintenance of Tufting Tools: We ensure our tools are properly maintained and calibrated to guarantee the best results for every rug, which is an important part of the process.
6. Applying Backing Glue: After tufting, we apply a layer of backing glue to reinforce the rug’s structure. This glue must dry for 24-48 hours to ensure it sets properly.
7. Cutting and Finishing: Once the glue has dried, we carefully cut the rug from the tufting cloth and proceed with the waterfall backing technique using hot glue for extra durability.
8. Non-Slip Backing: We apply a layer of spray adhesive to attach the non-slip backing, making sure your rug stays in place.
9. Final Carving and Detailing: The final step involves carving any additional details to give the rug a crisp, smooth, and polished look.
Given the attention to detail and the custom nature of every rug, this process can take time, but it ensures that you receive a beautifully crafted, one-of-a-kind rug that will last.
